Sex Education Policy

Sex Education is broadly defined to include all dimensions of sexual development. As well as providing factual knowledge, we aim to promote self-esteem, respect for others and a sense of personal responsibility. Specifically, we will: 

  • Create an atmosphere in which students feel able to ask questions and discuss sexual matters.
  • Combat ignorance and increase understanding by building on what students think, feel and understand about the physical, emotional and social aspects of human sexual development.
  • Develop the ability of students to determine their own values within a moral framework.
  • Encourage students to make decisions about their behaviour which reflect concern for themselves and others.
  • Recognise and value differences such as individual sexuality, rates of growth or family relationships.
  • Challenge sexism and prejudice in society and promote equal opportunities.
