At The Ramsey Academy, excellent attendance is one of the strongest foundations for academic achievement, wellbeing, and future success. We work closely with students and families to ensure every child has the opportunity to attend regularly, arrive on time, and make the most of their learning.

Research shows that even small amounts of missed learning can have a significant impact over time. Attendance of 96% or above gives students the best chance of achieving their potential and maintaining strong friendships, routines, and wellbeing.

The Ramsey Academy offers a comprehensive Early Help programme designed to support families with a wide range of needs. We are committed to working alongside families to provide guidance and assistance at an early stage, with the aim of resolving concerns through support rather than enforcement wherever possible.

Absence Procedures

The Ramsey Academy operates a 'First Day' calling procedure which usually takes place during the attendance 'Golden Hour' after registration. This means if your child is absent at morning registration without our prior knowledge and we have not received any communication, then we will attempt to contact you. A daily report is then handed to the Deputy Headteacher for monitoring. To support this process, please inform us immediately of any changes to your contact details.

Tutor time starts at 8.30 a.m. Any student arriving after 8.30 a.m. needs to go to student services to sign in.
If we feel that attendance is a concern, then we will contact you by phone or in writing. We may also invite you to an attendance meeting so we can all work together to improve attendance.
We work closely with the Local Authority and may make referrals if attendance continues to be a concern.

Please contact the school if you have any questions. We believe that school and home need to work together to improve attendance so please contact the school if you have concerns about your child's attendance.

If Your Child Will Be Absent

You are required to inform the school that your child will be absent before 8.30am on the first day of absence, and any subsequent days thereafter. You must provide a reason for the absence, however, we may require a medical certificate to justify frequent or extensive absences.

Please provide specific symptoms to allow us to monitor absences accurately.

If we are not informed of your child's absence, we will contact you in order to ensure their safety and confirm their reason for being absent.

If we do not receive an explanation your child's absence, or if the explanation is unsatisfactory, we may not authorise the absence and will mark this on your child’s attendance report. This is to ensure that sickness absence is not misused, and to promote attendance levels for all students.

Please note that we do not hold a policy whereby a pupil must be clear of sickness symptoms for 48 hours before returning to school. If your child is feeling well enough to come into school, they are welcome to return before the 48 hour window has passed

Leaving During The School Day

Wherever possible, parents and carers should arrange appointments outside of the school day. When this is not possible, students should attend school before and/or after their appointment, ensuring that the minimum amount of learning time is missed.

Please notify the school in advance of any appointment and provide evidence if requested. Students must sign out and back in through Student Services when leaving and returning during the school day.

Term-Time Leave of Absence

The Department for Education does not give parents an automatic right to take their child out of school during term time. Leave of absence will only be considered in exceptional circumstances and must be requested in advance.

At The Ramsey Academy, we understand that family circumstances can sometimes be complex. We encourage parents and carers to contact us as early as possible to discuss any concerns or requests. Our priority is to work in partnership with families, offering advice and support wherever we can.

Please be aware that holidays and leisure travel are not normally considered exceptional circumstances. Unauthorised term-time absence may be referred to the Local Authority, which can issue a Penalty Notice in line with national regulations.
