Science

"Demand evidence, ask questions, think critically"

Our science curriculum has been purposely curated to excite and stimulate curiosity. Science offers depth of knowledge and love of learning through exploring “how” and “why” questions that people of all ages ask. Whether about natural phenomena or processes, linking them to the “everyday” or the big questions, they are all explored together through the teaching and learning of our broad, balanced and ambitious, science curriculum that allows them to thrive.

Continued development of systematic approaches to thinking, learning through measuring, observing, recording, presenting, analysing and evaluating are all introduced at this stage and carried through to KS4.

Throughout our inclusive science curriculum, we ensure opportunities for students to develop their understanding of key scientific concepts while building fluency in science through the use of precise key vocabulary and literature. Our student's engagement with science goes to show the staff and the students firmly believe in achieving excellence together.

Along with the increased application of long-term knowledge, in KS4 we grow the connections between disciplines. Our progressive curriculum ensures all students can see how science links to other subjects, which enriches their experiences in learning and goes further to expand and highlight the appreciation that science is everywhere and underpins everything: in our bodies, our homes, our wider communities, our jobs and careers (some of which may not even yet exist), as well as the wider world.

Science teaches students how making mistakes leads to the unlocking of mysteries. Students’ resilience and self-belief blossoms, regardless of culture or background. Through support and challenge we ensure everyone grows in knowledge and understanding of science, which fosters interest, leading to passion and love and responsibility to do more for the world and the things that are in it.
