Physical Education

"Participation, enjoyment, experience, excellence"

At The Ramsey Academy, we firmly believe in achieving excellence together through a broad, balanced and inclusive Physical Education curriculum. Our curriculum supports and challenges all students, regardless of their background or sporting ability, enabling them to participate, enjoy, experience success and strive for excellence throughout their lifelong journey in physical activity.

Physical Education occupies a unique place within the curriculum because it develops the whole child. In an increasingly sedentary world, PE provides students with the knowledge, skills and motivation to lead healthy, active lifestyles. Through movement, competition, teamwork and personal challenge, students learn about themselves and others in ways that cannot be replicated in the classroom. PE develops resilience through overcoming setbacks, confidence through achievement, and character through demonstrating respect, determination and integrity.

Sport and physical activity have the power to bring people together, transcending backgrounds, cultures and abilities. Through shared experiences, collaboration and competition, students develop communication skills, leadership qualities and a sense of belonging within a wider community. PE teaches students how to work effectively with others, celebrate success and respond positively to challenge, preparing them for life beyond school.

Our ambitious, knowledge-rich curriculum enables students to know, understand and do more. Through carefully sequenced learning, students build on prior knowledge and secure key threshold concepts relating to performance, health, fitness and wellbeing. They develop physical competence, tactical awareness and the confidence to engage in a wide range of activities, both within and beyond school.

Lessons are designed to foster independent and resilient learners who thrive through participation and challenge. Through a broad curriculum that includes team sports, individual activities, fitness, leadership and theoretical learning, students gain meaningful experiences that inspire a lifelong appreciation of physical activity and sport.

In addition to this, the PE curriculum prepares students for further study at post-16 and equips them with the expertise, character and employability skills required to enter the workplace as confident, culturally enriched individuals. Whether pursuing careers in sport or other industries, students leave PE with transferable skills in communication, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving and self-discipline that are valued in all aspects of life.
