Homework at The Ramsey Academy
At The Ramsey Academy, homework is an essential part of learning. It helps students deepen understanding, build independence, and develop the organisation and study skills needed for future success. Research from the Education Endowment Foundation shows that effective homework can boost progress by up to five months.
We design homework to reinforce class learning, prepare for new topics, and encourage independent study. Students are expected to complete all homework on time, taking responsibility for their learning and meeting deadlines — important skills for education and work.
Why We Set Homework
- Reinforce and extend classroom learning
 - Prepare for upcoming lessons or assessments
 - Build revision habits and independent study skills
 - Develop reading and research skills
 - Encourage responsibility, organisation, and parental engagement

What Homework Looks Like
Tasks vary by subject and year group and may include reading, research, written responses, revision, problem-solving, creative tasks, or preparation for future lessons.
Frequency and Time Guidance
- Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9): Weekly homework in core subjects (English, Maths, Science) and other key subjects; around 30 minutes per subject.
 - Key Stage 4 (Years 10–11): Weekly homework in all exam subjects; at least 30 minutes per subject. Year 11 students should also complete an extra hour of revision per subject weekly, supported by GCSEPod and guided revision tasks.

Recording Homework
All homework is set on Satchel One (Show My Homework), accessible online or via the app. Students and parents can track tasks and deadlines together to support effective study habits.
