Remote Education

All students should be in school, in line with our attendance policy.

Remote education is not viewed as an equal alternative to attendance in school.

Remote education is only ever considered as a last resort where a decision has already been made that attendance at school is not possible, but students are able to continue learning. This may be due to national or local restrictions requiring entire cohorts to remain at home.

Days 1-3 of Remote Education:

Work will be set on Satchel One, according to a student’s usual timetable.

The objective will be to continue to deliver the curriculum as it would be taught if students were in school. This may not however be possible for some subjects. Appropriate adaptations will be made.

Day 4 Onwards:

Live lessons will be delivered via Microsoft Teams. Lessons will be delivered according to students’ usual timetables however will be 50 minutes long. There will be at least a 10-minute break between lessons. Details of protocols to be followed during live lessons will be sent out in advance.

Digital and Online Access

The parents of students without digital or online access at home should contact the Head of Year for their child if there is an issue with access. The school will put one of the following in place to ensure that access to work is still possible:

• Provision in school if this is possible

• Paper copies of work and resources provided. Details of a designated area where work can be collected by parents will be provided.

• A laptop may be provided to use at home whilst remote education is in place Parent support

Please support your child by putting the following in place:

• A quiet place to work

• Ensuring your child follows their usual school timetable

• Monitor regular screen breaks

Any concerns can be raised with the Head of Year or Pastoral Manager.

Assessment of student work

Feedback will be provided to students in the most effective way depending on the subject and specific content. Below are some examples:

• Quizzes • Self-assessment • Satchel One • Seneca • Teams assignments, forms and polls • Verbal feedback during live lessons • Written feedback Students requiring additional support Some students, for example those with SEND may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home.

Support

We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families and will work with parents/carers to best support these students. For example:

• Provision in school if this is possible

• Students with an EHCP will have a keyworker who will be in daily contact

• Regular contact with Head of Year/Pastoral Manager/Learning support

Students eligible for Free School Meals

Parents will receive details via email or phone if parents do not have an email address.
