After an extremely successful campaign last year which saw us under Mr. Charlton’s reign, make the final, the Year 11 football team began their last year of the district competition at Forrest Hall. Taking advantage of the home side’s poor defence, Ramsey started as they had left off, taking an early lead. There was no break for Forrest Hall as Ramsey’s midfield proved dominant, showing the great passing display which proved so important for their success last year. 3 quick goals just before half time gave Ramsey the reward they deserved after a strong 1st half. Ramsey continued to play good football and made easy work of the depleted home side in the second half, finishing the game 9-0 winners. Goal scorers were Alfie Fisk, Jack Preston, Harrison Yates, Jake Robertson, Man of the Match Alex Morrison, and an impressive 4 goals from Aiden Harding.
Hoping to continue the good start made the previous week, Ramsey travelled to Maltings, who they knew would be their biggest contenders in Group A. Ramsey were the pick of the two sides during the first half, battling hard and playing good football when given the chance. Ramsey took the lead through target man Richard’s classy long range strike shortly before half time. Maltings came out of their half time team talk with the bit between their teeth. However Ramsey’s new look centre half partnership of Lewis Brennan and Harrison Yates looked to be coping with the pressure fairly easily. The second half continued to be an ongoing battle, however Maltings got their equaliser through an unlucky own goal. The game’s final score reflected the well battled game and was 1-1. Man of the match was awarded to Matt Halls for his disciplined, strong display of skill in midfield.
In the 3rd and final game of the group stages, Ramsey travelled to Notley in a must win game to secure the much desired top spot. As in both games previously, Ramsey started very strongly. This was rewarded with a top finish from Bailey Turner, giving Ramsey the lead. High footballing skills from the home side continued throughout the first half, however the visitors deserved to lead by more than the slim 1-0 they took into half time. Much like the previous game, the home side came back strongly in the second half and this unfortunately led to the game becoming a little scrappy. Despite this, the boys from Halstead kept their heads, battled hard and came out 1-0 winners, securing the top spot, and a massive home semi-final v rivals Hedingham. The Man of Match was awarded to keeper, Taylor Nicholson, for his solid performance in keeping Ramsey’s lead intact.
Let’s hope we can go one step further this year by winning the final; however very tough opposition stands in our way. Next week we play Hedingham; let’s hope we battle and get the result we want. Come on Ramsey!
